Meet The Principal
Our Principal, Ms Karin Wetselaar came to our school at the beginning of 2008.
Karin was previously the Deputy Principal at Malkara School. She has over 20 years of teaching experience which includes teaching French in Australia and the UK, English in France and 7 years in Special Education at the University of Canberra.
"For me the most important thing educators can do for our students is to help them become more independent and to live lives that are rich, meaningful and connected with the community.
I love the friendly and supportive student centred learning and the community feel of Cranleigh School. The staff is so professional and I learn everyday from the students, parents and carers.
I am particularly proud of our strong focus on communication and the development of the Natural Aided Language project, our inclusion programs (within our school and across the Belconnen community) and our Annual Art Show, which proudly promotes the art work of our students as well as local artists. Our school is innovative in the development of programs and facilities that optimise outcomes for each student. Last year we initiated the Achieving Independence and Mobility (AIM) program for our students with physical disabilities. We are collaborating with a PhD student from the University of Canberra in the development of our Teaching and Learning Cycle and the development of an Augmentative and Alternative Communication Framework. Our school is implementing the adoption of iPads to enhance a range of student programs.
We are always looking at ways we can engage with families, local residents and businesses. I invite you to become part of our community and look forward to welcoming you to our school."
